He worked very hard to improve, and one of his teachers suggested that the best way to improve his pronunciation was to read poetry aloud.

In 1957, Jones made his Broadway debut, launching a multi-decade career in acting. His performance in The Great White Hope in 1969 earned him a Tony Award thanks to his rapid rise in fame and recognition on stage. He reprised the same role in the 1970 film adaptation that led to his first Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe.
Jones went on to win two Tony Awards for Fences and a Special Tony Award for lifetime achievement.

His place in the industry was cemented when he started providing the voice of the renowned Darth Vader in the Star Wars film series, which debuted with the 1977 film Star Wars. He continued for several decades to voice Darth Vader in the prequel Revenge of the Sith, the spin-off Rogue One, and the two sequels, Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back. When Jones departed from the role in 2022, he signed a contract permitting the use of his voice in recordings from the archives and artificial intelligence.
His portrayal of Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King helped him establish even more of a unique voice in movie history.
In his long and successful career, Jones landed a number of roles in movies including Conan the Barbarian, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, Patriot Games, The Hunt for Red October, and The Sandlot.
After receiving an Honorary Academy Award in 2011, Jones became one of the few actors to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.
