A second woman has come forward to claim that she is the missing toddler, Madeleine McCann, who disappeared over eighteen years ago.
Often regarded as the biggest missing-persons case in modern history, McCann’s 2007 disappearance from a posh resort in Lagos, Portugal, garnered international attention. Nearly 20 years later, the case remains unresolved, despite constant attention.
When Madeline was just three years old, she disappeared during a family vacation. Despite multiple high-profile hunts, authorities have never been able to definitively explain what happened to her.
While the majority of people think the girl was abducted, some people remain hopeful that she may still be alive today. Over the years, other young women have come forward to identify themselves as the lost Madeleine; Julia Wandelt, a Polish woman, has drawn special attention lately.
After saying that a new set of DNA test results “strongly supported” her assumption that she is related to Madeleine’s father, Gerry McCann, Wandelt, 22, was arrested last week on suspicion of stalking Madeleine’s parents in the UK.
A second woman has reportedly come forward to identify herself as Madeleine. She told the MailOnline that after having trouble getting identification, she first started to question her origins.
The 22-year-old American from Arkansas named Eugenea Collins said: “I can’t get any sort of identification.” After my house burned down, I was unable to get any help from the Red Cross since I didn’t have any identity.
Additionally, I have never seen an authentic birth certificate. They pointed me the one item I could see that had someone else’s name written on it and covered it with mine.
Needless to say, Collins’ claims have generated a dispute on the internet, with skeptics pointing out that she does not have coloboma, Madeleine’s characteristic birth defect.
“She has pictures that seem to be from when Maddie was younger than she was when she went missing, and she doesn’t have a mark on her eye,” someone wrote in a Reddit thread.
“She has shown pictures of herself when she was one or two years old, and she doesn’t seem to have an eye mark at all,” agreed a second.
Collins also revealed the results of her DNA test, which indicate that her background is predominantly British and Northwestern European. This, of course, does not prove that she was directly related to the McCanns.
The 22-year-old reportedly also stated her belief that her biological father is Christian Brueckner, a German who is the only suspect in Madeleine’s kidnapping.
