In honor of World MS Day on Tuesday, May 30, Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean shared an uplifting video on Twitter about her battle with multiple sclerosis.
“I wanted to let you know that MS really doesn’t present itself in a lot of ways,” Dean said in the video. “Even though we may seem fine—I got my hair and makeup done—our bodies are attacking the brain, spine, and central nervous system, which is why I call it the ‘invisible illness,’ the ‘My, you look so well’ disease.”
Fox & Friends co-host and weather anchor Dean was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. As she said in the video, she has been open about her battle with MS since the start, talking about her struggles and therapies over the course of more than 20 years.
My neck felt almost as though it had been burnt yesterday. I had a feeling about it last night. I didn’t get enough sleep, so I’m feeling it again today,” Dean said to her Twitter followers.
She continued by saying that “even if we seem okay on the outside, I have my hair and makeup done, and I’m smiling on Fox and Friends, it can be quite a challenge and what it feels like on the inside.” There are times when it can be hard to put on “that smiling face,” she continued.
Regarding her fellow MS Warriors, Dean remarked, “Together, I think we are stronger, and even if we don’t have a cure for this, there is certainly the hope that we can stop the progression all together, which would be wonderful.”
“There are new therapies out there and promising things on the horizon,” she said. I am expressing my optimism and my intention to continue raising awareness, even though I am currently unhappy.
In a follow-up article on Wednesday, May 31, Dean gave an update on her most recent symptoms. “And here’s my update: went to the doctor yesterday,” she wrote on Instagram. New MRIs, a course of steroids to help with pain, and more tests to find out what caused my flare-up are all planned. Now I feel somewhat better. We have to keep moving. I’m grateful for everyone’s prayers and generosity.
