Sometimes life is inspiringly beautiful, and other times it is horribly awful. I guess part of what makes the journey so fascinating is how unpredictable everything is.
When Brianna Rawlings was eighteen, seventeen weeks pregnant, and anxious to become a mother, she was dealt a devastatingly terrible blow.
Doctors determined that the teenager had NK cell leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood cancer. Before then, medical professionals and hospitals would just write off any leukemia symptoms as “pregnancy related symptoms.”
Brianna had to choose between ending her baby’s life and beginning the potentially life-saving treatment, or giving birth to her son and forgoing the treatment in the hopes that he would live a happy and healthy life. She made this decision around halfway through her pregnancy.
The young girl focused on giving birth to her child rather than getting therapy during her pregnancy. Tragically, though, her sacrifice would ultimately result in the mother’s and the child’s deaths.
Her child, Kyden, was only here for a short twelve days. Because he was born three months early, he eventually died even though he received enough love to last a lifetime.
In order to deliver baby Kyden, doctors had to perform an emergency cesarean section because they were worried that Brianna’s blood infection might be passed on to the unborn child.
According to the Daily Mail, Brianna revealed in an interview with Femail, “I was able to spend those 12 days with my baby boy Kyden, holding him, counting his toes and fingers, and talking to him like I would when he was in my tummy.” Simply said, those twelve days will always be the most unforgettable of my life!
“It’s been really difficult, drawn out, tiring, and painful,” she continued. Even though Kyden is no longer with us, he gave me the willpower to go on and get through this.

“I want to get better from this awful sickness. I believe I am capable of doing this, as I promised my son.
Brianna’s condition first seemed to be getting better.
Her blood levels had begun to rise, and she was pushing herself to the maximum to force her leg muscles to work again.
Unfortunately, the situation deteriorated. Her condition quickly deteriorated, forcing doctors to postpone their intention to have her have a bone marrow transplant from her brother.

Instead, they administered an experimental drug that they believed would improve her chances of survival.
Although it was an eye-watering $3,000 every week, her family was able to raise the funds necessary to begin her on a regular course of treatment.
They were only able to provide the drug twice before the cancer took her life.
Brianna Rawlings, 19, lost her fight with leukemia on December 29, 2018, yet she fought and passed away with a brave dignity that few of us can ever hope to match.
What a striking illustration of the purest kind of love.
The family of Brianna Rawlings is in our thoughts and prayers.I think she is a very beautiful woman. She worked really hard for her child.
