He rescued the life of a hungry she-wolf. A year later, the woodland gave back a hundredfold.
John was a lonely and solitary man who had sought refuge in the chilly woods of the mountain.There, away from the crowds, he finally felt at home.While searching for fresh animal traces in the snow one morning, he came across a body on the ground.
As he got closer, he froze. It was a wolf.
It was a she-wolf, frightfully thin, her skin dangling to her bones. Her fur was dirty and matted. But there was a strange gleam in her eyes. No animosity, no terror. Just pain.
John knelt down carefully. He took his last piece of dried beef out of his knapsack and placed it carefully a few centimeters away. The she-wolf smelled carefully and then began to eat. Slowly and silently.
He whispered, “You deserve another chance, too.”
Then he departed without waiting, thinking she would disappear forever.
One year later…
John returned to that part of the woodland for no apparent reason. Perhaps out of nostalgia. The silence was broken by a voice, or rather, a strange murmur:
— John
He came to a halt. No one to be seen. Out of the trees sprang a gorgeous she-wolf with gleaming fur.
With steely gaze, she approached silently. Soon there were more wolves in their immediate area. A bunch. But none of them flashed their teeth.
He heard the voice again in his mind:
You saved her. Now is your chance to be safe.
John collapsed to his knees due to the intensity of his emotions. It dawned on him then that when you respect nature, it knows how to return the purest of gestures.
