When the bus driver threw out an 80-year-old woman, everyone was taken aback by her silent reaction.
No ride, ma’am, no ticket. “Get off the bus!” the driver shouted, glaring at the elderly woman who was gripping the railing with weak hands.
Outside, the wet snow poured, casting a pall of silence over the gloomy city. It was cooler inside the nearly empty bus than it was outdoors. She clenched her fists over her scuffed shopping bag and said nothing.
— I left! Breaking the stillness, the driver exclaimed, “This is not a nursing home.”
The old woman shuffled to the door, each step a struggle. She came to a halt on the stairs, gave the driver a tired expression, and whispered:
