How Lynda Carter who played ‘Wonder Woman’ broke all barriers – this is her today

She stunned everyone when she won the title of Miss USA in 1972 and was entitled to represent the country in the most renowned beauty contest, Miss World. The role as Wonder Woman was one of the many, if not the most important, chances this title offered the beautiful Lynda Carter.

Carter was widely admired. Along with men, women from all around the world admired her exceptional talent and flawless attractiveness.

“I didn’t get any prizes,” Carter remembers when she received the title of America’s most beautiful woman. They describe the experience as “painful” and “bad” because of the “certain built-in cruelty” that participation in pageants involves. “They smack a little banner on you, they stick a crown on your head, and they call you a beauty queen.”

Prior to being cast in the classic role of the heroine, Carter’s film career was challenging. She did get a few parts, but she nearly ran out of money trying, so she decided to take a regular job instead. But her manager called to let her know that Joanna Cassidy had been turned down and that Lynda had been cast as Diana Prince and Wonder Woman, her crime-fighting alter ego.

One of the first female superheroes in history, Wonder Woman, empowered a lot of people. Thousands of women in New York marched down Fifth Avenue to demand equality a few years before to the show’s debut.

“Any civilization that does not recognize the female is doomed to destruction,” an episode of Wonder Woman stated. Sisterhood is stronger than anything else, and women hold the key to the future.

Carter did the role perfectly. She had a significant influence, and her character had an impact on other female authors and producers.

“Well, I said, ‘Not a chance,'” Carter said CBS News when she was told that women would be jealous of her role as the heroine. They won’t be since I’m not playing her that way. I want women to want to be me or my best friend! There’s something about the character that gives you the impression that you could soar in your head while you were pretending to be her, or whatever the situation was.

When she was chosen as “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” in 1978, Carter wasn’t overly thrilled, and the year’s best-selling item was a poster of her wearing a crop top.

I just took a picture, which makes it weird. All I did for my poster, which sold over a million copies, was take what I thought was a dumb picture. “Oh, try this thing tied up here; it’ll look beautiful,” said my wife. “The back-lighting is really terrific,” the photographer added. In a Women Who Rate a 10 interview on NBC, she said, “I think it would be difficult for anyone to deal with someone having that picture up in their… bedroom or their… living room or whatever.”

She tried her hand at theater, landing a role in the Chicago production, in addition to performing in films and TV series including the Dukes of Hazzard and Partners in Crime, in which she costarred with another Hollywood great, Loni Anderson.

Carter was present as Wonder Woman was designated as the UN’s “Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls” in 2016, commemorating the superhero’s 75th anniversary.

“Being a role model for fans worldwide, especially girls, was the greatest honor and responsibility of playing Wonder Woman,” Lynda said at the screening.

“I have personally witnessed how a strong yet kind superhero can encourage men to support equality and women to believe in themselves.”

Lynda Carter was married twice. Ron Samuels, her husband and a promoter and agent, asked her to his office so they could discuss business. He worked with well-known actors and actresses as Joyce DeWitt, Jennifer O’Neill, Barbara Carreras, and Jaclyn Smith.

In the past, they were among the most well-known and adored celebrity couples.

However, they separated due to marital problems, such as their dispute over whether or not to have children.

I hope he forgives me, and I have forgiven him, because it was a horrible experience for both of us. In 1982, Lynda declared, “I sincerely and honestly wish him well,” following the formalization of their divorce.

Two years later, Carter married Robert A. Altman, a lawyer in Washington, D.C.

The gathering where the two first met was organized by Maybelline, a cosmetics firm for which Carter served as ambassador. Robert apparently only agreed to go since he had heard that the Wonder Woman actress would be there.

Robert replied, “I knew she was a pretty actress who did Maybelline modeling, but I couldn’t quite place her.”

“I thought the last thing I wanted was to go to dinner and get mixed up with some Hollywood actress, and I was planning to go back to the hotel and watch a football game.”

After Carter married the guy she believed to be the love of her life, she stepped back from the spotlight and focused on raising their two children.

Carter and Robert stayed together until his passing in 2021. He was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and died at the age of 73.

The actress didn’t spoken much about her loss. On what should have been his 75th birthday, she shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.

“Today would have been your 75th birthday. Because of the affection you generously gave, I am unable to let you go. It lives on in me, our children, and the many people whose lives you touched. Because you gave so much of yourself while you were here, we honor your love, life, and legacy today.

“If I were up there now, I would sing to you across the mountain’s canyons. Instead, when I woke up to the sunrise, I sang my heart and love to you across the lake.

Regarding her alcoholism, the 71-year-old actress stated, “I’ve been in recovery for 23 years.” And I didn’t start drinking until I was in my mid-20s. When I stopped drinking for two or three years and then started up again, it was terrible. That was a long time ago, and I’m extremely happy now,” she added, describing her late hubby as a great help and a savior.

Lynda Carter remains one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. She doesn’t age and is still gorgeous.
