The little boy wouldn’t stop crying, and what first seemed like an ordinary meltdown quickly turned alarming. His mother initially assumed it was teething, gas, or simple hunger—but after nearly four hours of constant screaming, she realized something wasn’t right.
His cheeks were flushed, his breathing uneven, and his cries were growing hoarse. She tried everything she could think of: checking his temperature, changing his clothes, inspecting him for scratches, rocking him, pacing the house, even turning on white noise.

Nothing worked.
Then, during one sharp wail, he opened his mouth wide—and she saw it. A dark mark on the roof of his mouth. It looked terrifying, almost like a sore or a hole. Her heart immediately dropped.
Panicked, she rushed him to the hospital, her hands trembling as she described what she’d seen, already blaming herself for not catching it sooner.
