The rare throwback photo he shared on social media gave followers a glimpse of his early days. In the picture, he stands with two other young men and his father, who passed away in 1992 when Matthew was just 22 years old.
In his memoir, the actor wrote about how shocking and painful it was to lose his father at such a young age. In the old snapshot, McConaughey has light blond hair and is wearing a casual T-shirt with the words “Texas Student Leadership,” looking like a completely different person from the star fans know today.
