The 62-year-old Grammy winner has been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) illness, a neurological degenerative condition that results in balance issues and muscular atrophy.
He has admitted that he gets nervous and shaky on stage, which may make it harder for him to perform live. Jackson contracted the disease from his father as well as from his grandmother, who also had it. Jackson’s sister is now suffering CMT as well. Despite having no known treatment and being associated with conditions like Parkinson’s and muscular dystrophy, the ailment is not lethal.
