General Hospital Actor Doug Sheehan Dies at 75

In 1982, Sheehan received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy for his performance on “General Hospital.”

Doug Sheehan, an actor known for his roles in soap operas, departed from this life. He was seventy-five years old.

The Wyoming-based Kane Funeral Home issued a statement stating that Sheehan died “peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.”

“Currently, services are being awaited. “Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements,” the statement continued. The cause of death is still a mystery.

The Californian actor made his TV debut as Chuck’s Angels in 1978, but Joe Kelly, a lawyer on General Hospital, earned him his big break in 1979.

Up until 1982, when he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the outstanding actor in a supporting role in a daytime drama series category, Sheehan stayed a cast member of the well-known soap opera.

on 1983, he made an appearance on the Dallas spinoff Knots Landing as reporter Ben Gibson, the second husband of Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark).

Before ending his career in 1988, he portrayed stockbroker Brian Harper in the two-season NBC sitcom Day by Day, which featured Christopher Daniel Barnes and Linda Kelsey. In addition, he has appeared in episodes of MacGyver, Diagnosis Murder, Columbo, Cheers, and Clueless on television.

Sheehan also appeared in big-screen motion pictures, such as the 1979 comedy 10 and the 1995 comedy Cops n Roberts as well as the 1982 comedy Victor/Victoria.

His final on-screen roles were as a guest star on the television shows What I Like About You (starring Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth) and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (starring Melissa Joan Hart).

Grief erupted on social media following Sheehan’s death. A user on X (now Twitter) wrote, “He hadn’t been on General Hospital in 42 years, and the fans never forgot him and never stopped asking for his return.” It’s impressive and a compliment to Doug Sheehan as well.

Another admirer wrote, “Very sad to hear that actor Doug Sheehan, whom I very much enjoyed on Knots Landing and who was also on General Hospital, has passed away.” His age was seventy-five.
