A woman’s attempt to determine the generosity of a blind date took an unexpected turn when her plan went awry. To test her date’s willingness to share, she took the bold choice to invite 23 family members. However, things did not go as expected.
The woman’s plan was doomed to fail from the start. Her date, Mr. Lui, had arranged to treat her and her family to dinner at one of his favorite restaurants as a way to show her off. However, he was taken aback upon discovering her entire 23-person extended family there. It was understandable that Mr. Lui was reluctant to foot the bill for such a large celebration, creating an embarrassing situation.
According to the Taizhou Evening News, the incident took place in an eatery in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. Even though she didn’t really mean to, the woman wanted to know if Mr. Lui would be prepared to assist her and her family. Since it was their first blind date, she sadly didn’t carry out her plan as well as she should have.
Over the course of the dinner, it became evident that Mr. Lui did not agree with the woman’s level of generosity. He abruptly fled, leaving the woman to handle the aftermath on her own, instead of accepting the cost. The substantial 20,000 yuan (about $3,100) bill was entirely her responsibility, which was a disheartening exam result.
Despite the uncomfortable situation, the woman went on. Out of exasperation, she even filed a lawsuit against Mr. Lui. In the end, the court determined that he just had to pay 1400 yuan of the outstanding balance.
In retrospect, the woman’s attempt to determine her date’s generosity turned out to be not only unsuccessful but also highly costly. Despite her well-meaning intentions, this cautionary tale is a useful reminder that open communication and honesty are more crucial in relationships than in-depth character evaluations. Honest communication and trust are important building blocks for a strong relationship between two people.
