It was more than just a dream come true for Sidney Kimble West and her father Sam West when they took the stage at the 2020 National SHAG Dancing Championships.
Sam, a little-known dance sensation, and his daughter gave a mesmerizing performance of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.” As soon as the music began, their serious expressions transformed into smiles, and they began to move in sync across the dance floor.
This was more than simply a dance—it was a celebration of their family’s love of the arts. Sam started dancing when he was nine years old, motivated by his mother. He and his partner Terri Alberty took home two junior national championships during his academic career.
Their performance was more than just a demonstration of talent. It was a powerful reminder that, like family, dance brings people together. Sidney said, “Dancing with my dad was a dream come true.”
