Teddy thought it would be the finest day of his boyhood, but in reality, it was a terrible one.His parents wanted to take him to Lego Land or Disney World for his sixth birthday, but he preferred to spend it with his pals.
About two weeks prior to the big day, Teddy’s mother chose a table at Peter Piper Pizza and sent thirty-two invitations to Teddy’s teacher, requesting her to give one to each student in the class. Parents of the child claimed they would bring their kids to the celebration in more than half of the cases.
Teddy’s mother Sia ordered a large pizza and prepared gift bags for her son’s buddies on his birthday. Not a single student spoke up, despite everyone’s hopes that it would be an enormous blast. The friends had vanished after a wait of more than sixty minutes.
Sia felt devastated after this. She was devastated for her son, who was supposed to be having a good day, but instead was having a very difficult one.
Teddy’s father admitted to being “a little let down” to the New York Post. Teddy said that since it was what mattered most, it was bad that they hadn’t arrived an hour into the festivities. The parents tried diverting their son with games in the arcade in an effort to lift his spirits.
In an effort to raise awareness that something similar should never happen to anyone, Sia decided to snap a picture of Teddy and post it online. She was unaware, though, that Teddy’s depressing picture would become extremely popular and well-known. She was even embarrassed to share it after seeing how much attention it garnered.
Teddy received birthday emails from hundreds of people, many of them with gifts attached. Teddy’s day was brightened by an invitation to two upcoming MLS games, one from the Phoenix Rising and one from the Phoenix Suns.
Only one parent apologized to Sia on behalf of all the other parents who decided not to bring their kids to the celebration.
We were disappointed by this narrative, but it should serve as a reminder to be more deliberate and considerate.
