What additional clear indicators of a narcissist are unusually high numbers of selfies on their phone and suspiciously white teeth? A study suggests that you should focus solely on their eyebrows.
According to recent research from the University of Toronto, narcissistic personality traits are more common in people with “distinctive eyebrows,” as reported in the Journal of Personality.
The Greek tale of young Narcissus, who fell in love with his reflection in a pool of water, is where the word “narcissist” first appeared. In general, severe narcissistic personality traits are linked to extremely high self-loving ratings.
They normally give off a positive first impression by seeming kind and pleasant, but in reality, they frequently act egotistical and selfish, emphasizing their own accomplishments or beauty.
Their eyebrows are also really attractive, for some reason.
The researchers took pictures of more than forty college students with neutral expressions in order to reach this conclusion.
To determine the degree of any narcissistic traits, they then had the students complete a psychological test called the Narcissistic Personality Inventory.
The other participants were asked to assess each person’s level of narcissism based just on looks after the researchers showed them the photos.
First of all, their preliminary findings demonstrated that participants were highly skilled at assessing students’ levels of narcissism based only on the appearance of their eyebrows.
Specifically, high hair density and thick eyebrows were more often recognized as reliable indicators of narcissism.
They then calculated the extent to which the perceptions of narcissists and non-narcissists on narcissism varied when the brows of the two groups of people were swapped.
This indicates that when the eyebrows of non-narcissists were placed on narcissists, their characteristics were viewed as less narcissistic, and vice versa.
According to their findings, this demonstrates how “distinctive eyebrows reveal narcissists’ personalities to others” and how it has a big impact on whether or not people believe you’re narcissistic.
What then makes this possible? Notwithstanding the fact that eyebrows are crucial for nonverbal cues and social interactions, researchers found that humans have an incredibly high sense of eyebrow recognition. They did not, however, search for a mechanism to account for this connection.
Moreover, in a microcosm, a person’s eyebrow may embody their entire identity and appearance.
Narcissists maintain a high level of appearance because they desire admiration.The study’s authors observe that “individuals with high levels of narcissism typically have more attractive appearances, are cleaner and more well-groomed, and wear more expensive, fashionable clothing.”
A well-groomed brow indicates that the owner understands the significance of both male and female brows for mate selection and facial identification.
