Barbra Streisand: A Powerful Voice for Democracy

81: Remaining Firm in Democracy
Barbra Streisand, the renowned singer and actress, has a history of controversy. Even at 81 years old, she doesn’t hesitate to speak out against things that she believes pose a threat to democracy.

Streisand’s latest target is Donald Trump, and she is clearly stating that she would not back him should he win the president once more in 2024.

Trump’s Distaste for Streisand
Streisand has long supported and raised money for the Democratic Party, and she has never shied away from criticizing Trump. She has called Trump “so stupid” and “ill-informed,” referring to him as “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.”

In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, she said quite plainly, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president.”

But Streisand has made equally dramatic statements in the past. She vowed to leave the nation, like with many other celebrities, after Trump’s victory in 2016. She joked at the time, “America was great – before you were elected.”

Venting Resentment Through Music
Streisand’s mounting discontent with Trump led her to record her 36th album, “Walls,” in 2018. With powerful songs like “Don’t Lie to Me,” this musical masterpiece honors Trump’s autocracy.

Streisand claimed that she was horrified by the constant barrage of incorrect information and that she wanted to let her anger out via her music. She believes that the country should not be mislead and is against lying.

The Conscience of a Nation via Artists
In “My Name is Barbra,” Streisand’s autobiography, she talks on the tension that arises between politicians and artists.

She sincerely believes that by forcing society to confront harsh truths, artists serve as a nation’s conscience. Streisand boldly declares, “That is why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.”

Staying Put and Seeking Reform
Unfortunately, Streisand’s powerful voice wasn’t enough to sway voters in 2016. Stars like Streisand were faced with a difficult decision after Trump was elected: should they leave the country or carry on fighting?

Comedian George Lopez and talk show host Jon Stewart were among many who cracked lighthearted jokes about visiting other countries or even planets. Some realized, like Chelsea Handler, that their platforms and voices mattered more than ever in a divided nation.

President Joe Biden: An Optimistic Figure
After four years of doom, Streisand looks to President Joe Biden for inspiration. She believes that the country is headed in the right path and respects his integrity, honesty, and compassion. However, she remains concerned about the next elections and Trump’s potential return to power. Streisand is determined not to live in a country led by a man she considers to be “so stupid” and “so ill-informed.”

Restoring in a New America the Nobility of Truth
In the end, Streisand envisions an America free of backlash, pollution, insults, and profanity. She advocates for the restoration of truth because she firmly believes that unless it is restored, America will never be truly great again.
