Paul Harvey, a news analyst and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato delivery made him one of America’s most identifiable sounds, had over 24 million listeners at the height of his career.
Even while he was entirely right about what he said 54 years ago, no one could have imagined that his famous statements would become the reality of today.
When I read it today, I became aware of how relevant it is.
Renowned ABC Radio commentator Paul Harvey aired the comments on April 3, 1965.
He starts his “prophecy” by saying, “If I were the Devil,” and then continues discussing the issues that we currently face.
Everyone should listen to this. Unfortunately, Paul Harvey was spot on fifty-four years ago.
“If I Were Satan” If I were the Prince of Darkness, I would want to shroud the entire earth in darkness.
I would not be satisfied until I had taken the ripest fruit from the tree, despite the fact that I would possess four out of five of its people and a third of its land.
I should therefore proceed to take over the United States, if necessary.
First, I would start a whisper campaign.
I would speak to you with the wisdom of a serpent, just as I said to Eve, “Do as you please.”
“The Bible is a myth,” I would whisper to the youths. I would convince them that “man created God,” not the other way around. I would acknowledge that “what is bad is good and what is good is square.”
I would gently advise young married people that going to cocktail parties is good for them and that working debases them. They shouldn’t be “extreme” in their religious beliefs, morals, or patriotism, in my opinion.
And I used to have the elderly repeat after me, “Our father which are in Washington,” in order to teach them how to pray.
After that, I would make arrangements.
I would teach authors how to make gory literature appealing in order to make everything else seem dull and uninteresting.
My threat to TV would be dirtier films, and vice versa.
I would sneak into unions and advocate for more leisure and less work. Idle hands typically work for me.
I would smuggle narcotics into anybody I could, sell alcohol to affluent women and gentlemen, and utilize pills to put the others to sleep.
If I were the Devil, I would back educational establishments that foster intellectual growth in students while disregarding the need to regulate their emotions.
I would persuade pastors to support me by appointing an atheist to represent me before the highest courts.
I would use flattery and offers of authority to get the courts to rule against God and in favor of pornography.
Thus, I would expel God from the courts, the classroom, and ultimately the congressional buildings.
In his own churches, I would then elevate science over religion and substitute psychology.
I would transform an egg into the Easter emblem if I were Satan.
as well as a bottle, which stands for Christmas.
If I were the devil, I would steal from the rich and give to the poor until I got rid of people’s ambition. In my police state, everyone would then have to return to work.
I would then divide up families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines, and objectors in slave labor camps.
If I were Satan, I would simply continue doing what I am doing since the world would go to hell just as assuredly as the Devil.
My mother and I listened to Paul Harvey recordings in the 1970s. He talks about everything with remarkable accuracy. The current situation is exactly the same as what he said fifty-four years ago!
Fantastic man, incredible insight. If you agree, do share.
