Viewers of “Wheel of Fortune” are protesting because they believe Megan, a competitor, was wrongfully denied $40,000 for what would have been the best option.
Megan, a married choir director at a high school in California, had to complete a bonus assignment that involved two phrases that fell within the “Living Thing” category.
While the wheel was spinning, host Pat Sajak led Megan to the puzzle board, revealing the incomplete sentence “_ N’R _ _ _.”
Megan changed the board to read “P_N_’ RC _ D” after carefully choosing the letters.
In the final 10 seconds, Megan yelled out her guess, which was either “Pink Orchid” or perhaps “Something Orchid.” Megan shouted her annoyance at the correct response, “Pink Orchid,” as soon as the timer rang and the relevant letters were on the screen.
Sajak handed Megan a healthy $40,000, far more than the $14,007 she eventually won, after noticing she might be right and presenting the prize estimate card.
Those in their living rooms, unable to accept the result, flocked to Wheel of Fortune to vent their frustration at Megan’s reaction, which they felt was unfairly incorrect.
At the beginning of tonight’s #WheelOfFortune bonus puzzle, one user noted, “The woman got screwed; she totally said PINK ORCHID.”
I asked the judges right away after she stated that! I lip read and use subtitles because I am partially hearing in one ear and deaf in the other. I was called “Pink Orchid” by her. “Sure!” exclaimed another admirer.
“I’m blowing up!” “Pink orchid,” she said sympathetically. “WTF?” said a third.
@WheelofFortune, hello I rewound the last puzzle after hearing the rival remark “pink orchid” at the beginning. One irate viewer shouted, “You owe her some $$$.”
@WheelofFortune, all right. You can definitely hear her say “pink orchid” if you watch tonight’s show again to figure out the final puzzle from the most recent broadcast. The winner did not receive the recognition they were due. Play it again now. She stated just that! Bright Orchid.
Fans of Wheel of Fortune have been criticizing the show more and more in the midst of the scandal over what appear to be mistakes, such as a recent argument over a rhyme during an Express round. The audience exploded on January 22, as the performance appeared to hesitate over an answer in the “Rhyme Time” category.
After two of the contestants were confused by the current farce, Jill, the third candidate, figured it out by guessing two “y’s” and came up with the rhyme “Absolutely Positively.”
Supporters strongly disagreed with the judgment, arguing that “Absolutely Positively” is not a rhyme.
One of the onlookers wrote, “Hello @WheelofFortune.” Could someone please clarify how these two terms rhyme? Because they most definitely don’t.
