It has been more than 60 years since a man and a woman were married. They had told each other everything. There were no secrets between them, except that the old woman had a shoe box on top of the wardrobe, which she had forewarned her husband not to examine or ask about.
Over the years, he had never really thought about the box, but one day the old woman got really sick, and the doctor said she wouldn’t get better. In an effort to arrange their affairs, the little old man took out the shoe box and brought it to his wife’s bedside.
She agreed that he should immediately find out what was in the package. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a $95,000 cash stack. Then he asked her what was in it.
She claims that “when we were getting married, my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never argue.” If I ever felt angry with you, she told me to keep quiet and crochet a doll.
The old man was so moved that he had to hold back his emotions. There were only two precious dolls in the box. She had only ever been angry with him twice in all the years she had lived and loved him. He was so happy he almost burst.
He answered, “That explains the doll, honey, but what about all this money? Where did it come from?
“Oh, that?” she said. “I got that much money when I sold the dolls.”
