Toby Keith could ‘barely sing’ in one of last ever performances

Toby Keith died in 2024 following a battle with stomach cancer, leaving the country music business of a legend.

Following a diagnosis in 2021, the 62-year-old underwent six months of treatment. Sadly, despite his undeniable bravery and his vows to fight the sickness until the end, Keith passed away on the evening of February 5, 2024.

His death, of course, stunned the music industry and beyond, particularly his swarm of fans, many of whom were wishing for his recovery.

Toby Keith revealed on Instagram in June 2022 that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. The well-known individual said at the time that he was undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment and that he wanted to take a vacation from his job to spend more time with his family.

“For the past six months, I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery,” he posted. “So far, so good. I need time to breathe, rest, and recover.

“I can’t wait to spend time with my family,” Keith added. But I’ll see the fans as soon as I can. I’m excited.

But he never wavered in his love of playing music. When Keith sang “Don’t Let the Old Man In” at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville for the People’s Choice Country Awards in September 2023, it was one of his last ever performances.

The substantial amount of effort Keith put into the performance was known to his fans. “Do you see him trembling?” someone wrote. He fought hard to sing that song. And he was absolutely correct.

Another said they believed that “nerves or medication side effects, or both” were the source of his “shaking.”

Keith’s wife Tricia, who was seated in the audience, was obviously affected by what she seen of her husband.

After receiving the Country Icon Award at the same evening, Keith made a funny acceptance speech, saying, “I bet you never thought y’all would see me in skinny jeans.”

Before the end of last year, Keith had been optimistic about his fight with cancer, pointing out that since his diagnosis, his tumor had shrunk by a third.According to reports, he continued to appear in public in 2023, performing in Las Vegas in December.

A few days before he died, the country music icon shared a video of himself remembering his early career. Following the announcement of his passing, tributes have been coming in from all across the world.

May you rest in peace, Toby Keith, and thank you for the memories.
