Sadly, many of the dogs who end up at animal shelters are malnourished and underweight. It irritates me to see animals fight until they are almost too weak to stand.
Some animals remain compassionate and trusting of humans despite their maltreatment, while others shrink in fear when a rescuer approaches. Sometimes the suffering faced by the latter is unimaginable.
I find it impossible to imagine ever wanting to hurt an animal. Furthermore, I fail to see why anyone would want to do this in any way.
But I think dogs have a sixth sense that lets them tell the difference between good and terrible people.
Those that work with animals will understand the importance of letting a neglected animal make contact. To show a dog you don’t mean any harm, it’s common to want to play and touch them, but this isn’t always the best course of action.
Some folks just don’t understand how a new person may surprise a dog who has been abused.
Edie, a stray dog of mixed breeds, was just a few hours away from being put down. She was terrified of people, and it had been a long time since anyone had shown any interest in her. Her fur was a mess, and she was severely malnourished.
One had to be an animal lover to give Edie another chance.
The first part of the video is difficult to watch. Edie is so scared that she hardly knows what to do with herself. Her whole body trembles when she growls at the man she perceives as a threat.
However, the man in the video eventually captures Edie and stops her from running away. He can now visit her.
The development of a trustworthy friendship follows shortly after. Edie begins to understand that his purpose is to help her, not to hurt her. It is almost evident that she has come to the idea that she will no longer be put down.
