David Letterman was once hailed as a late-night television maestro and was well-known for his charm and wit. But looking back, not all of his interviews have stood the test of time, at least not in the eyes of critics.
One such instance included Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston. At first, it seemed like just another talk-show moment. But watching it today?

When Jennifer Aniston appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2006 to promote the romantic comedy The Break-Up, in which she costarred with Vince Vaughn, who also co-wrote and co-produced the film, the interview took place.
The interview took a negative turn as soon as Letterman started praising Aniston’s legs throughout their conversation.
When Aniston wore black shorts and a black button-down shirt, Letterman fell in love. He was compelled to praise her legs, and the cameraman followed suit, emphasizing them with a close-up.
He reaffirmed, “You have amazing legs, which is why that’s an amazing ensemble,” after remarking, “That’s an amazing ensemble.” Incredible legs. Only if your legs are long, muscular, and appealing can you wear that.
The actress, who was clearly taken aback by the comment, tried to laugh it off by saying that the heat was the reason she had only worn shorts.
In one interview, Aniston, who usually conducted herself with grace, couldn’t hide her discomfort when Letterman seemed fixated on her legs.
But Letterman would have none of it. As the conversation went on, he reappeared with another remark: “Your legs, you’ve got something there.” Back then, and even now, fans shuddered at the encounter.
As if that weren’t awful enough, he suddenly shifted the topic and began interrogating her about her purported acquaintance with Vince Vaughn. Letterman also questioned Aniston about Vaughn’s suggestion that she “appear naked in the movie.” Surprised, Aniston hesitated and then steered, suggesting that Letterman should have asked Vaughn the question when he was on the show.
I can’t help but bring up Aniston’s legs.
We now know that Aniston started dating her co-star Vince Vaughn when they were filming The Break-Up. She revealed in a later interview that he played a crucial role in her recuperation after her well-publicized divorce.
While talking about Vaughn, Letterman couldn’t help but bring up Aniston’s legs. I can’t get past your legs, I’m telling you. “You got something there,” he remarked.
Later in the conversation, he seemed to be alluding to them when he remarked, “I hope to God somebody at the house TiVoing this because I can’t stop looking at this shot.” It was unclear exactly which photo he was referring to, but Aniston’s uncomfortable expression suggested it was another attempt to highlight her legs.
Furthermore, it was evident that Letterman had previously caused Aniston discomfort. In 1998, during a now-famous interview, he took her by the neck and sucked on a lock of her hair. Aniston, obviously embarrassed, wiped her hair with a tissue Letterman provided.
He then handed her a tissue to wipe up the spit, which just made the encounter more disagreeable.
Aniston handled it with elegance, as she has done so many times throughout her career. She was able to carry on the conversation and was renowned for being composed under duress.
When she finally returned to The Late Show following such an awkward event, she proved once again that she could handle even the most trying circumstances.

She gave him the Brooks Brothers tie she wore on the cover of GQ magazine and remarked, “This is a highlight of my career.” Wearing the tie with pride, Letterman remarked, “Funny, the tie said the same thing during the photoshoot.”

When the tie appeared a little too short, Letterman remarked, “You know what they say about guys with short ties.”
