After observing that their dog sat next to the cot every night without moving, the new parents decided to install a camera.
As soon as the young couple welcomed their baby child, Lora, their golden retriever, took over as nanny. Dogs and children often form loving bonds, but Lora’s behavior soon turned strange.
Then an extremely odd thing began. Lora would go to the crib, sit beside it, and stay still every night for a week. She didn’t lie down, go to sleep, or even go have a drink of water. She just sat there, always watching the infant and occasionally whimpering softly.
“She’s probably just protecting her,” the mother responded with a smile at first.
But the dog began to behave oddly every day. She sat by the cot all night long as the parents slept in their room. She played, ate, and slept as if nothing had happened in the morning.
The young mother started to get scared. “What is causing her to behave this way? I am quite concerned about our daughter. It might be time to take her to the vet.
To reduce their anxiety, the couple installed a night-vision camera aimed at the crib. They were amazed when they watched the footage in the morning. Their daughter had been in danger.
At approximately 3:12 AM, Lora suddenly stood up, growled, and started barking wildly toward the window. The window sash gently and very slightly opened, as seen in the video. Then someone’s hand made an attempt to push through the screen.
She jumped into action, grabbed the curtain between her teeth, and jumped onto the windowsill, causing the dog to bark. The hand disappeared. There was silence for a moment.
The mother grabbed the phone and called the police.
A thief was later found to have been breaking into homes for weeks through windows on the ground floor. He specifically targeted families with infants, leaving the parents unprepared and vulnerable.
He was apprehended two days later thanks to evidence found by the window, which included blood drips and pieces of glove fabric.Lora was the one who had bitten him.
After that, the couple never locked Lora in the kitchen at night again. Now, she slept alone in the nursery, curled up next to the crib. She never whimpered again.
She had done her job. She had only been protective.
