As she looked attentively at the dog’s fur, one of the women went pale. A dog unexpectedly approached the friends as they were relaxing on the beach and started howling loudly
Five women who had been friends for a long time were sitting comfortably on large blankets under the gentle summer sun. They were enjoying their well-earned rest, joking, exchanging the most recent news, and occasionally falling silent as they gazed out to the horizon.
A basket containing prepared sweets, such as fruit, biscuits, and chilled drinks, was placed next to them. The women laughed and had a good time.
Out of nowhere, a medium-sized mixed-breed dog with alert eyes and unkempt fur appeared. It started to run about the group, barking and wagging its tail with excitement, yet there was something eerie about the way it moved.
As one of the women handed the puppy a piece of cookie, she said, “Look how cute.
Presumably starving, he tossed it another treat and put another in.
But the dog paid no attention to the food at all. It kept going around, circling from lady to lady, its barking getting louder. The friends froze for a moment, sensing something was wrong.
Then the most observant of them all suddenly turned pale.
Girls, have a look at its fur!
With a trembling hand, she pointed to the animal’s side. The tufts of reddish hair showed dark drops of blood.
The women looked at each other incredulously, then leaned closer. The dog’s side and paws did indeed have fresh bloodstains on them.
One friend was so scared that she said, “Oh my god, is it hurt?”
The dog didn’t moan, limp, or protest, though, and it didn’t seem to be in any discomfort. Instead, it sprung to its feet and ran toward a sheer cliff face.
The pals looked at each other in confusion and decided to follow. As the dog jumped across the hot sand, they sprang out of their blankets and tried to follow it.
As they got closer, their hearts tightened. On a moist sandbank by the water, a man lay asleep. There was a dark patch of blood beneath his head, and a wet stone glistened near him, suggesting that he had probably slid and hit his head.
The dog ran to him, sniffed, and started barking again, as if he needed help. After exchanging anxious looks, one of the women took out her phone and described the scenario to emergency services while her fingers were quivering.
“Is he breathing?” one of the friends inquired, getting down on his knees.
“Barely…” she said softly, placing her palm on the man’s breast.
The women tried to keep the dog alert, calmed him, and waited for the paramedics.
They all kept thinking the same thing: without this loyal dog, they would never have known that a disaster was only a short distance away from their happy outing.
A few minutes later, the ambulance siren blared in the summer air. The man was carefully lifted onto a stretcher. The women breathed a sigh of relief as they watched the doctors bandage him.
At last, as though appreciative of the help, the dog went up to one of the women and let itself be petted.
