Thomas didn’t waste any time. When the girl was done talking, he murmured, “Can you take me there now?”
She nodded.
Without warning anyone else, Thomas got into the car with her. The drive to a tiny coastal town that few people had even heard of took more than three hours.
The girl named Maya explained everything on the way.
It was stormy that night. We saw something on the rocks as we were fixing nets. My father fishes for a living. It was your wife. She was barely conscious. She was only able to say her name before passing out.
They took her home and looked after her, she said. But no car, no signal, no idea who she was, just that name and a jewelry.
“When I saw your face on TV, I knew she was the one people were searching for,” Maya added. But we couldn’t get in touch with anyone. I tried to get there earlier, but my parents wouldn’t let me. I slipped away today to locate you.
By the time they arrived, the sun had already set over the ocean. Despite its small size, the dwelling was comfortable. Elena was inside, lying on a couch behind a thick blanket.

He froze, and Thomas stepped forward cautiously. Her eyes opened at the sound of his words.

All of a sudden, everything stopped.
They had both returned, him and her.
