The neighbors were horrified by what they found when they smashed down the door and entered the flat after weeks of hearing strange noises coming from an elderly man’s home.
Viktor, an elderly guy, stood out on a quiet street where everyone knew each other by name. He rarely left his apartment or spoke to anyone, and no one really knew what he did or how he earned a living.
But one thing was clear to all: strange noises were coming from his residence all the time. A deep growl that sounds like someone scratching the walls every now and again. Sometimes a high-pitched screech that sounds like a scream, but not nearly human. The nights were especially hard, with day after day of wailing, exhausted barking, and echoing. There were times when it seemed like a total internal breakdown was taking place.
At first, the neighbors put up with it. He was then urged to keep it down while they knocked on his door. There was even a note left:
“Please figure out how to stop the noise. None of us are sleeping at night.
But there was no response. Viktor didn’t always answer the door; when he did, he would nod, mutter something he couldn’t understand, and then go behind his door again.
Over time, the worry grew. Some of his neighbors believed he was going insane. Some thought he was secretly living with other people. Some even believed it might be illegal. But nobody knew the truth.
One day, everything was different.
It had been around a week since the elderly guy was last seen. His door was closed and, as usual, his windows were covered. But the sounds persisted.
On the other hand, they grew considerably louder. Gnashing teeth, cries of anguish, and scraping and clawing on the floor were all heard at night. As if someone or something was trying desperately to escape.
The people had reached their breaking point by the eighth day. Two men came to his floor and knocked on the door. No one answered. When the police were called, they eventually broke the lock and unlocked the door.
As soon as they stepped inside, everyone’s blood became cold. In the unit, there was
The room was filled with a musty, vile stink, and Viktor lay dead on the bed. He had been dead for about a week, according to the investigator. However, it wasn’t the worst aspect.
About twenty canines, some of them emaciated, malnourished, and barely surviving, lived in the flat. While they roamed the rooms, some of them remained by the body, refusing to leave it.
The floor was covered in claw scratches, feces, torn furniture, and signs of animal fighting.
It appears that the elderly man has been hiding, feeding, and sleeping with stray dogs. They were his only friends. He had kept it a secret out of fear that they might be taken away.
For seven days, the dogs had been left trapped without food or water.
The neighbors talked about the incident for a long time, their voices shaking. The house has been deserted ever since, as if unwilling to reveal its terrible story.
