She Quit Her Job to Sing Full Time, Then Take Me to Church Won Her the Golden Buzzer

Sharon Irving was 29 when she stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2015. About a year and a half earlier she had walked away from her job to give music her full attention, and she had been working hard to make that choice count.

Raised in Chicago, she found her voice singing in church, and her grandfather was a Baptist preacher who marched with Dr. King. She chose Hozier’s “Take Me to Church”, starting softly before letting her voice grow huge and powerful. 🎶

The theatre fell silent as she sang. When she finished, the judges struggled to find the words, and then the Golden Buzzer was pressed as gold confetti fell all around her.

For someone who was once too shy to stand on a stage, it was an incredible turnaround. Her leap of faith had led her straight to one of the biggest moments of her life. ❤️
