Valerie Bertinelli Reveals New Boyfriend, Two Years After Divorce Heartbreak

After the heartbreak of her previous engagements, Valerie Bertinelli, who had previously made it clear that she was off the market, has revealed on Instagram that she has met a new boyfriend.

The 63-year-old made things official on Instagram last Friday by using lyrics from Taylor Swift’s song So High School—which is allegedly about the singer’s boyfriend Travis Kelce—as the caption for a selfie. Two years had passed since the singer and her ex-husband Tom Vitale split up, and it had been four years since Eddie Van Halen, her first husband, passed away.

“I’ll drink what you think and I’m high from smokin’ your jokes all damn night,” Bertinelli wrote as the photo’s caption.

The Hoarse Whisperer, writer Mike Goodnough, is Valerie’s new companion, according to Entertainment Tonight.

When actress and TV personality Bertinelli said to USA TODAY earlier this month, “I’ve met someone,” it sparked rumors. And I sincerely thank him for it.

I’ve never connected with a man like this before. I don’t want to reveal too much, but I feel so lucky to have met him. I had six cats and a dog, and I was going to die happily.

This week, Goodnough admitted on his Substack that the rumors that he was dating Bertinelli were true, in an essay titled “Rumors, Rumors, Rumors.” Using a “reporterly voice,” he asked “Ms. Bertinelli” if there was “any truth to the idea you are dating me?” as he playfully disclosed in the piece. Do you have any comments?

“That’s true,” she said, and he went on. Indeed, I am. You and I are life partners.

Bertinelli recently discussed her previous union with Eddie Van Halen in her cookbook, Indulge.

She stated in the cookbook, “Ed and I never stopped loving each other, even though we got divorced,” which was released on April 12.

“Who knows, if it weren’t for cancer, we might have had a second wind,” Bertinelli continued, making it clear that what she was saying was just “wistful thinking.”

Valerie explained how, in 2016 or 2017, she began to follow Goodnough on social media, and how in 2018, he did the same. Following their divorce in 2022, Valerie and Tom Vitale most likely began messaging each other.

Goodnough is “a really super funny, incredibly talented writer,” according to her description.

This month, the actress told PEOPLE Magazine, “I’m in love.” I vowed I would never fall in love again, therefore my emotions are on a seesaw.

However, we’re happy to see Valerie happy!
