Goldie Hawn rose to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, a status she has held for a considerable amount of time. Some could even claim that this beloved actress was almost born into the entertainment industry because of the amount of work she still puts into entertaining us all.
Together and separately, Hawn and her partner Kurt Russell have faced many challenges. Last year, she spoke about some of the struggles she had as a young child.
Once again, Goldie has been candid about her ongoing health issues. Goldie Hawn was born in Washington, DC, on November 21, 1945, and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland. Rut Hawn and Laura Hawn were her parents.
At the age of three, Goldie began her quest toward a career in entertainment. Goldie started attending her mother’s dance school to learn tap and ballet. At the age of ten, she started performing in productions like The Nutcracker, and nineteen years later, she was running and teaching at her own dancing school.
Goldie Hawn’s Mental Health Struggles
Despite some early difficulties, Goldie Hawn had an incredible childhood in retrospect. She has spoken of an incredibly emotional and touching interaction she had with a teacher. As her celebrity grew, her mental health began to deteriorate.
Being a celebrity could seem like an exciting job choice. Stars are paid a lot of money to make movies, travel, attend posh parties, and engage in other activities. However, fame also carries a lot of stress. Although it’s a popular belief that celebrities are always happy and perfect, everyone has bad days.
Feeling under constant pressure to perform and be available for fans and the media may be quite exhausting. At some point, this started to seriously affect Goldie Hawn.
Mental health concerns are starting to get more recognition in Hollywood. It wasn’t always the case, despite the fact that more people discuss it now days.
At 21, Fighting the Depression
Last year, Goldie decided to be open and honest about her own mental health. When she made her breakthrough at age 21, you would have believed she was the greatest person alive. As it turned out, she was unable to leave the house due to severe depression.
In her early twenties, Goldie revealed in an interview with Good Morning Britain, she began to experience mental health problems.
I had depression when I was younger. Even at twenty-one, I was succeeding,” she said. “I know it sounds horrible, but it’s a very, very difficult thing; I didn’t necessarily want that.”
Goldie had no desire to become famous, in contrast to many others. After her big break, all she wanted was to step away from the spotlight, not to become even more famous.
Hawn claims that she was unable to leave her house in public due to her severe depression and other problems.
“I was very realistic; I did have a plan, and I didn’t have any grandiose ideas at all,” she went on.
“I found a solution to this on my own. I learned about the impact of mental peace on the brain from my visits with a doctor and a psychotherapist.
Wishing for a “Regular Life,” Hawn Goldie
Goldie continues to come out and has gained a lot of praise for being open about mental health. In a promotional video, Goldie discussed how her remarkable success had not brought her happiness and that she would be speaking at an event organized by her mental health foundation, MindUp.
Hawn said, “I wanted a normal life and that’s not exactly what I was getting,” according to Hello magazine. My goals were to return home, get hitched, start a dancing school, find happiness, and start a family. Her age was only twenty-four.
“My career took off, and I received an Academy Award as recognition.” That sounded amazing, but I was afraid I would get anxious again and had to lie down in my dressing room.
Hawn went on, “I literally lost my smile.” For someone who wanted to be happy their entire life, I wasn’t really happy. A year later, I was beginning to rediscover who I was, but trust me when I say that I know what it’s like to feel anxious and depressed.
Supporting and loving responses were poured in for the candid video from fans.
Another user said, “@goldiehawn, you’re an inspiration and I really appreciate you sharing this.”
“Goldie Hawn, you’re amazing! I’m crying because of you! A third wrote.
When her profession took off and she became even more well-known, Hawn dedicated more time to helping people.
Goldie has always been an advocate for mental health, especially when it comes to helping children through her nonprofit, MindUp. The charity provides resources to help children understand their feelings, which proved especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hawn said on Good Morning Britain, “When this pandemic struck, everyone was completely shocked.” We weren’t sure how to treat our children, so we were taking care of ourselves. Simply said, there are a lot of problems.
Hawn also urged children, parents, and teachers to seek help if they noticed any signs of mental health problems.
“It’s Alright to Notice They’re Not Well”
The lecturer said, “Everyone of us could be experiencing depression, anxiety, or low mood for a different reason.” “All I want to say is that if we are genuinely sad, we do need to be able to take care of ourselves and see a doctor. Avoid experiencing guilt.
On Mental Health Day, Goldie came out once more, pleading with those who are experiencing mental health issues to come forward.
“There has never been a greater increase in mental health, or rather mental illness,” the speaker stated.
“I think it’s really important to know that it’s okay to befriend someone and to notice they’re not well,” Goldie added. “To encourage conversation about it and demonstrate to them that they shouldn’t feel guilty about it.”
Goldie has unquestionably made time for her physical and emotional well. Many thought her 15-year Hollywood vacation would remain indefinitely, but it turns out she was just in need of some downtime.
“There are times when taking a break from anything can be beneficial,” she said in 2017. “I forgot how much fun acting was.” My thought as I got out was, “I could do it again!”
Goldie Hawn’s “Secret” to a Healthy Life
Goldie, seventy-six, always has a positive outlook on life, which improves her overall health. Thoughts of optimism even make her feel younger.
“The ability to see things new for the first time is connected with youth,” she once said. “If your eyes continue to see life with wonder, you will [feel] young!”
Kurt Russell, Goldie’s spouse, and their family all value regular exercise and a healthy diet. For the past ten years, Goldie has committed herself to keeping herself physically well with a certain diet and exercise routine.
“You’re as young as you feel,” she says all the time, yet she still feels thirty. “She’s healthy, vibrant, and comfortable in her own skin,” a close friend said to Closer.
“[Goldie is] working harder to stay in shape. She never really follows one consistent routine. Her catchphrase is “diversity.” A second source claims that she never gets bored of her workouts because each day is unique.
Goldie and her spouse, Kurt, can be seen in recent photos going on frequent bike or stroll rides.
“I try to have the most fun possible.”
So what is Goldie hiding? In reality, she says, there isn’t one.
“I think we overeat; I don’t eat a lot,” she stated in a 2016 interview with People.
“And I drink my green juice every day! I don’t overeat, I drink a lot of juice, and I don’t muck around too much. So if I only want to eat a bowl of lentils for protein, I won’t combine them with other things.
“I honestly don’t possess [a secret].” I try to drink my juices, work out for a short while every day, and set aside time for myself.
When I can’t find time for a long meditation in the morning, I usually perform quick ones during the day when I have to hustle because the phone keeps ringing. My goal is to enjoy myself to the fullest when riding and trekking.
