Ryan Bray is a kind individual who makes a consistent effort to help those in need. One Sunday, while driving home from work, he saw a panhandler on the street begging for money. This kind of scene was not out of the ordinary in his neighborhood. Bray felt motivated to better his life even more, so he approached the man with an offer.
Rather than giving the man spare cash, Bray proposed paying him $15 per hour to work for his family business. He was shocked, however, when the beggar scoffed at the idea and turned it down outright. He believed that he could beg for more money than to work.
The man snapped at Bray when he thought about hiking the pay. It appears that Bray’s concept challenged his complacency and unsettled his perception of an easy life in which riches came to him. The beggar’s response disappointed Bray, so he decided to take unilateral action.
Bray produced a sign of his own the moment he arrived home. Then he went back to the same spot on the street and confronted the panhandler, calling him out for his lack of motivation and indifference. Bray felt obligated to explain to the beggar the consequences of his acts, even though he was generally kind.
The homeless man, who wished to remain unidentified, told reporters in Florida that Bray had mislead him about having extended an offer of employment. He just wanted help to get off the streets. He sees every penny he receives from begging as an opportunity to progressively improve his circumstances.
Nevertheless, Bray sticks to his version of what happened. He is insistent that if the area stops giving beggars money, they will be forced to go. He is holding a poster imploring drivers not to give money to beggars.
Bray sees an opportunity to change people’s minds and for them to stop making things worse by taking the beggar’s remark personally. Bray’s resolve was reinforced by the incident where the beggar entered his car and asked for money.
