“In the Still of the Night,” penned by Fred Parris, was covered by his group Five Satins. It was a moderate hit when it was first released, but it eventually attracted a lot of attention and is now recognized as one of the best doo-woop songs ever. Many musicians, including Debbie Gibson and Boyz II Men, have covered it. It has also made multiple movie appearances.
In 1955, Parris penned this masterpiece in the local church basement. In the video below, we can see a live excerpt from the film Sweet Beat. Following its inclusion on the 1987 album “Dirty Dancing,” the song’s popularity grew. The song ultimately peaked at number 90 on the Rolling Stones’ 2010 list of the Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
