I don’t really fear death since I think it’s a beautiful and natural thing. But as I become older, I fear that I won’t be able to take care of myself.
to be totally dependent on someone else, incapable of independently using the restroom or remembering your children’s names. That isn’t how life is.
Maria was spending her final days in a care facility. She also knew that she was nearing the end of her life.
Maria missed being surrounded by music after spending her entire life singing and teaching piano.
One of her former students, however, was lucky enough to work at her assisted care home in Austinburg, Ohio.
Since she had been Joshua Woodard’s teacher since he was nine years old, they were well acquainted.
Maria’s biggest wish before she died was to hear the song “How great thou art.”
It was clear that Joshua was thrilled to fulfill Maria’s final request.
Using the lyrics on his phone, he sang an impassioned rendition of Maria’s favorite song.
The fact that Joshua had known Mary since he was nine years old makes it extra cuter.
“Hospital staff are angels, but this hospice aide is unique,” says Marti Adkins Redmond.
When Mary was younger, she was a student of Joshua Woodard, who is now her assistant. Mary was a singing and piano instructor. Hospice caregivers are special people!
