The Poet Who Said He Woke Up Hungry Got an 11 Out of 10 From Simon

Guy Kelton Jones AGT poet

Guy Kelton Jones was born in New York and raised in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina. He walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage relaxed and funny, said he woke up hungry, and kept the rest of his act a surprise.

He introduced a poem called The Riot Wasn’t Plan A. The words came fast and full of fire, and halfway through he turned the poem into a song. The theater went silent, then exploded into cheers. 🎶

The judges called it very powerful and said he really meant every word. One told him he was so much more than a poet, and Simon said a great audition has to be original and memorable, then called it an 11.

Guy said he got it from his mother, his grandfather and his great-grandmother, all poets. Four yeses later, the family tradition had a new stage. ❤️
