Student who tore out own eyeballs while high is fired from her job

A student who went viral for plucking out her own eyeballs while high on crystal meth has recently been fired from her job and said she had “no regrets.”

Kaylee Muthart, a 20-year-old methamphetamine user from Anderson, South Carolina, suffered a severe psychotic episode in 2018.

In high school, Kaylee started smoking marijuana, and after a while, she started injecting meth. When Muthart’s mother eventually convinced her to check herself into a rehab center to get clean, she wanted one last high before giving up.

Because of the drug’s horrifying effects, she believed that “everyone would die if I didn’t tear out my eyes immediately.”

“I remember thinking that someone had to sacrifice something important to right the world, and that person was me,” she told South West News Service via The Daily Mail. “Why me?” I knelt down and hammered the ground while praying. Why am I required to complete this task?

She then on, “I poked each eye with my thumb, pointer, and middle finger.” It felt like the hardest thing I had ever had to do, a great struggle. Twisting and pulling, I managed to get each eyeball out of its socket. She said the church’s pastor heard her shouting, “I want to see the light.”

He claimed that when he found me, I was holding my eyeballs in my hands. I had smashed them, but they were somehow still attached to my head,” Muthart says.

Even though the gory experience left Kaylee permanently blind, she overcame her drug addiction and has subsequently transformed her life. As part of her self-rebuild, she obtained a job washing dishes at a neighboring restaurant to help her while she finishes school.

Despite Kaylee’s own admission that she had “no regrets” about how she was fired, a sad update revealed that she had been sacked from her position.

She was sacked for taking food out of the restaurant kitchen to feed a needy cat and her eight puppies, the student told the Mirror.

She was dismissed because she refused to stop eating when the owner of the establishment asked her to.

“I am feeling positive,” Kaylee told the Mirror after losing her prior job.

“Getting fired is never pleasant, but I could move on knowing that I did what I believed to be right.

“I ordered my meal especially for the cat and gave it the one I would get for my shift because I knew there was a cat waiting to be fed right there and I could not leave every night with a clear conscience.”

It was “hard on her” to be robbed of the ability to support herself as a result, she said, adding, “I would not have been able to walk away from that knowing that I didn’t do what I was convinced in my heart to do.”

“Therefore, I feel calm and positive every day of my life knowing that I live without regretting my decision.”

After losing her work, Kaylee claims she wanted to “appear more normal to the outside world,” which is why she now wears fake eyeballs.

Muthart acknowledged, “I get really upset about my situation sometimes, especially on nights when I can’t sleep.” However, I must admit that I’m happier now than I was before anything. Being blind is preferable to being addicted on drugs.
