Elaine Codden from Dublin stepped onto the Ireland’s Got Talent stage in a simple black outfit. When the judges asked about her act, she said she does business singing, or kitchen karaoke if you want to call it that 🎤.
She told them she would sing a bit of Barbra Streisand. The judges looked pleased, and Elaine began softly with “The Way We Were”, standing still and singing the gentle ballad with real feeling.
Then, without warning, everything flipped. Elaine threw off the calm look, showed a sparkly sequinned top underneath and launched into a loud rock anthem, strutting across the stage 🤘. The audience did not know whether to laugh or cheer.
The judges were just as stunned and the buzzers started to light up, but Elaine kept going with total commitment until the very end.
Louis Walsh admitted he was in shock, so much in shock that he could hardly believe it. Another judge said she thought it was okay and joked that Elaine’s family might be embarrassed, but added that it was great she got up there and did it, and that she looked amazing ✨.
It was not the kind of audition that wins a Golden Buzzer, but it was one the judges and the crowd will not forget any time soon.
