Wembley Got Behind This Dad Who Spent 8 Years Homeless as He Sang Sam Cooke

Ricky John singing on The X Factor

Ricky John, 36, from south west London, came to The X Factor with his partner Alicia and their two daughters watching. He told the judges he had been homeless for around eight years and on his own since he was 16, until his family gave him his smile back.

He chose Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, a song that matched his own story. With a six-month-old baby at home and very little sleep, his voice cracked for a moment, but he kept going and Wembley Arena got louder behind him. 🎶

One judge told him he was rocking Wembley, and another praised his strong voice and big personality. One judge even said the shaky moment was when they liked him most, because he picked himself up and carried on.

Ricky walked away with four yeses and heard the words he had waited years for: he had just changed his life. ❤️
